A contemporary adaptation of Chekhov’s Ivanov from the original Russian. Nick Ivanov, a man of infinite promise and debt, is torn between his loving wife and the lusty daughter of his creditor. When his vodka swilling, poker playing, gun toting friends insert themselves into the intrigue, Nick gets pushed to the edge. Fiercely comic, electrifying and blatantly romantic, this is Chekhov as you never imagined.
About the Company
Blessed Unrest is committed to producing dynamic, disciplined, and exuberant new works for the stage by training and collaborating as an ensemble of artists, building original pieces, and reconstructing established texts. A 501(c)3 non-profit, experimental theatre company, Blessed Unrest has been generating original plays since 1999.
In 2004, Blessed Unrest company member and fluent Russian speaker, Laura Wickens became obsessed with Anton Chekhov’s Ivanov. She spent several years translating and adapting the play and in the spring of 2008 Blessed Unrest held a developmental workshop of Wicken’s new script. In May of ’09 the company produced “Nick” at the Interart Theatre.
